Three JCC Maccabi Alumni from the Palm Beach Delegation Represent USA in the Annual European Maccabi Games
Three JCC Maccabi Alumni from the Palm Beach Delegation Represent USA in the Annual European Maccabi Games BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (February 7, 2019) --- The Mandel JCC announced that their Palm Beach JCC Maccabi Games delegation will be sending three of their alumni athletes to the 15th Annual European Maccabi Games.
Every August, thousands of teens between the ages of 12 and 17 travel to a new destination to participate in the JCC Maccabi Games and Arts Fest. With events ranging from basketball to swimming and from dancing to broadcast journalism, there’s a program to fit every teen’s interest.
As a small delegation in Palm Beach County, Palm Beach has always had a big heart with an even bigger spirit. With just under 10 kids and growing, they have still managed to walk away with 15 gold and silver medals each year. They have seen multiple pictures and heard countless stories about teens keeping in contact with their new friends within the delegation as well as all over the world. They have opened the eyes of teens to different cultures, different experiences, different friendships and different ways to experience Judaism.
Now, this year, the Palm Beach Delegation is extremely proud and humbled by the opportunity to not only be a part of the JCC Maccabi Games, but also the 15th Annual European Maccabi Games as well. Unlike the JCC Maccabi Games, the European Games are held every four years in a different overseas country. Every delegation around the world has the opportunity to allow their best Jewish sportsmen and women the opportunity to tryout, but only the best of the best are chosen to represent their home country. Competing against countries from Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland and so many more, the Palm Beach Delegation is sending three of their alumni athletes to represent the United States in Budapest this year.
David Yudien, 17, and Noam Rothman 17, will be participating in basketball and Steven Behar, 17 will be participating in swimming and staying with local families and experiencing the trip of a lifetime.
Additional Questions or Concerns:
Steven Behar says, “The Maccabi Games give me a chance to compete outside my swim team’s regular meets. I have formed friendships that have lasted through the years with swimmers across the world. I get to be part of a Jewish activity that helps me understand it’s not the importance of winning but of connecting with each other. Of course I like to win too! Swimming internationally has always been a dream of mine and I can’t be happier it’s with Maccabi.”
