MANDEL JCC OF THE PALM BEACHES ANNOUNCES GREATER PALM BEACH DELEGATION WILL BE ATTENDING MIAMI JCC MACCABI GAMES® AND ARTSFEST® THIS SUMMER.

BOYNTON BEACH & PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla (May 23, 2017)- The Mandel JCC of the Palm Beaches is excited to announce that this summer it will be taking the Greater Palm Beach delegation to Miami, Florida from August 6, 2017 to August 11, 2017 for the JCC Maccabi Games® and ArtsFest®.

The JCC Maccabi Games is an Olympic-style sporting competition that is held in varying host communicates throughout North America, but includes participants from all over the world. Beginning in 1982 with just 300 athletes, the JCC Maccabi Games® and ArtsFest® now attracts over 6,000 Jewish teens annually, ranging from 13 to 16 years of age (as of July 31st of the respective year). It is the second largest organized sports program for Jewish teenagers in the world. Sports include baseball, basketball, competitive dance, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, softball, soccer, swimming, table tennis and volleyball. Also, part of the experience is a newer program called ArtsFest®, which was created in 2006 to provide creative and artistic Jewish teens the chance to participate in workshops and learn from leading artists and professionals in the fields of acting/improve, dance, musical theater, rock band, culinary, star reporter, visual arts, vocal performance and glee.

This year, the Palm Beach delegation is bringing 14 teens to Miami to compete.

Geoff Stahl, JCC Maccabi Games® and ArtsFest® Committee Chair feels passionately about how the experience impacts Jewish teens. “I first learned of the JCC Maccabi Games® and ArtsFest® a number of years ago when I worked for the Memphis JCC. Although I have changed career paths, my time as the Memphis JCC Delegation Head embedded in me a passion for making sure that as many Jewish teens as possible participate in this incredible, life-changing program. In that spirit, over the almost 9 years I’ve lived in Palm Beach, I’ve committed myself to growing the JCC of the Palm Beaches delegation by serving as Committee Chair, coaching past teams and by also taking on the role of Assistant Delegation Head to the excellent JCC staff, Delegation Head. While it’s impossible to put into words how incredible this experience is for Jewish teens, suffice to say that it is like shrinking the most incredible month of sleepaway camp anyone has ever had into a fast-pace week where participants meet other Jewish teens from all over the world, many times creating friendships for life.”

Opening Ceremonies for the JCC Maccabi Games & ArtsFest will take place at the Watsco Center on the University of Miami Campus on August 6, 2017 at 7:00 pm. We encourage the community to come cheer on their Palm Beach Delegation!
