Description
Escher’s Mathematical Art
It is confusing enough that Escher shows ants walking endlessly on a Mobius strip (a surface with one side), or a drawing which you see forward and backward without shifting your viewing point, a building topped by a staircase on which one can walk forever and never reach the top or bottom. See how Escher made glorious visual depictions of infinity. In order to fully appreciate Escher one needs a basic introduction to his incredible application of geometric and topologic concepts. Contemplate the philosophical implications of this most popular illustrator. Math as art or art as philosophy? Instructor: Geoff Kashdan | Wednesday, December 11 | 11:30 am
