Description
Maria Nhambu was raised in an orphanage for biracial children run by German nuns in Tanzania, East Africa, where she experienced hunger, mental and physical abuse, illness and neglect. To cope with her excruciating situation, Maria learned to dance from the women in a nearby tribal village and would practice in the privacy of the orphanage bathroom. In her teens, she was adopted by an American volunteer teacher from Minnesota who brought her to America where she attended college, married, and raised a family. To embrace her African roots Nhambu developed a fitness program called Aerobics with Soul – The African Dance Workout, which she teaches at fitness centers and health spas all over the world. Now in her early seventies, Nhambu has published two out of three books in her memoir trilogy. She offers advice on what it takes to overcome past suffering and becoming a whole human being. "You can’t change your past," she says, "but don’t let the past define you."
