Description
Jeanette Jennings is the mother of four children. Her youngest child, Jazz Jennings – now 16 - was assigned male at birth, but was diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria at age 3 and transitioned to a girl at age 5. With so little information regarding transgender issues years ago, Jeanette and her husband Greg, agreed to share Jazz's story with Barbara Walters on 20/20 when Jazz was 6. Since then Jeanette has been a fierce advocate for transgender youth and she and her family continue to share Jazz's story through numerous TV appearances and with other media outlets. In 2011, she and her family were filmed for a documentary for Oprah's OWN network titled I am Jazz: A Family in Transition. Besides helping to educate the public about transgender issues, her underlying message is the importance of unconditional love, tolerance and acceptance. Jeanette is the recipient of many honors for her advocacy work, including the Ackerman Institute's Family award. For the past few seasons, Jeanette and her family have been the subjects of the award - winning television reality series titled I Am Jazz,' aired on TLC.
