Mysticism and magical experiences have been a part of Judaism for millennia. In fact, the rabbis of the Talmud and midrash-could not ignore the reality that large portions of the masses believed in and used magic. The Torah contains many stories of mystical experiences, from visitations by angels to Solomomic magic as well as vague hints of a mystical school of thought that was taught to only the most advanced students and was not committed to writing.
