Description
Contemporary Architecture
The critic John Ruskin felt that architecture could claim to be the highest of all the arts because of its alliance with other arts to make it a unified whole. That symbiosis certainly exists in today’s eloquent expressions of art and architecture. The two continually nourish each other in new and inventive ways. When asked if there is a blurring of the lines between art and architecture today Richard Meier replied that it is simply that more artists aspire to be architects, which differs from the historical premise that architects wanted to be artists. He continued that the beginning points are different: An artist has an idea of what could be and then finds someone who wants that idea; an architect waits for someone to come to him with a project and then says, “I have an idea of what you can do”. Meier also believes that a good work in architecture is also a work of art. Movement and change have become the essential keys to the new forms in building that depend heavily on discoveries in computer technology, new exciting materials, and brilliant imaginations. The look in contemporary architecture is evolving faster than ever before and what is being designed and built in the twenty-first century was unimaginable before today.
